IRESS 2024

On May 7th, 2024, the University of Padua hosted the 2nd edition of the IRESS (Italian Rocket Engineering Student Summit), an extraordinary event that brought together some of the most ambitious universities’ rocketry teams in Italy. Organized by the THRUST Student Project from the University of Padua, this annual summit took place in the historic Bo Palace, in the Galileo Galilei Great Hall, the very same hall where the legendary scientist once delivered his lectures.

IRESS 2024 provided a unique platform for THRUST, Red Propulsion, PoliTO Rocket Team, ICARUS, SkyWard, Space Eagle, Sapienza Rocket Team, UniNA Rocket Team, and DOPE Aerospace. Each of these teams shares a common passion and mission: designing, building and launching rockets. The event served as a valuable opportunity for them to showcase their ongoing projects, exchange insights, and discuss future advancements in the field of aerospace engineering.

The summit was made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Industrial Engineering Department (DII) of the University of Padua. Alongside student presentations, IRESS 2024 also featured remarkable guest speakers from leading aerospace organizations such as PLD Space, T4i (Technology for Propulsion and Innovation). Additionally, attendees had the opportunity to learn about IRIDE Spazio, one of Europe’s largest satellite projects, spearheaded by the Italian Government, ASI and ESA.

The summit also featured CISAS “G. Colombo,” the University of Padua’s prestigious research center dedicated to space activities. One of the highlights of the summit was the presence of the Italian Air Force Acrobatic Team, with Captain G. Morello delivering an inspiring speech.

IRESS 2024 was more than just a conference, it was a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and the pursuit of space exploration. With an open invitation to all students, the event reinforced the growing interest in rocketry and aerospace engineering among young minds.
